But eventually I had to try these breads. I love chocolate so I don't know why I was so afraid - maybe it was the fear I would eat the whole thing by myself. So after getting the right kind of chocolate I made the bars.
They were pretty good - my son said they were in between cake and brownies so I consider that a success. I made the whole recipe which probably was a mistake since this dough only lasts 5 days. I have a hard time using up dough that fast - especially something like this chocolate one. So after a few days I just made cupcakes as the book describes (except no sugar on top) and you can see them below in the muffin pan. My kids didn't really like them though - not as chocolatey as they appear. My husband on the other hand really loved these. So instead of eating these in one day, I froze them in the freezer so he can enjoy them over a longer time.
And then the beet buns. As a I already mentioned I made the previous bread again so I also made more hamburger buns and actually made hot dog buns (see below) this time and they turned out great. I love that bread! But back to the beet buns, after one unsuccessful attempt to buy beets my husband found some. I don't think I have ever even touched a beet before. I just couldn't bring myself to make them before the bread challenge link was up so I might add it at a later time. And it will be nice to see what everyone else did for these buns.
Enjoy your bread!
Your hot dog buns look great and so perfectly shaped too!
ReplyDeleteI like the espresso bread too but not surprised your children did not. It's a savory bread, just barely sweet which is more of an adult taste.
next generation of bakers, love that picture. Hope you try the red beet bread. You got the beets so give it a try.
ReplyDeleteLooks very good. I'm afraid I didn't make any of these but made some brioche with ganache.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad your strudel bread came out so well. And the hot dog buns are great looking. We liked the beet buns here, they made great turkey sandwiches. We had the chocolate bread with ice cream, so the sweetness was bumped up.
ReplyDeleteWhat great lessons to teach your kids. They sound like they are open to trying new foods. Try the beet buns in a very small batch. We liked them. I love the golden beets. They are a bit more mild and very sweet.
ReplyDeleteCooking in the kitchen with my kids has been some of the best spent time of my life for about a million reasons. Love the pictures of them and the story to go with it.
ReplyDeleteI think it is adorable that your son wants to bake! You got to get them started off eating right.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you guys enjoyed the chocolate bread. You should definitely try the beet buns! They are good, I promise.
Really fun family time. Great!!!
ReplyDeleteI love that you involved your kids! And how on earth did you get such perfect hot dog buns?
ReplyDeleteYour hot dog buns look great! Makes me want a hog dog now.
ReplyDeleteI hope you do try the beet buns. I, like you, had never eaten a beet before at least not that I can remember. I didn't want to try them either, but I made them anyway. My son and I actually enjoyed them.
I'm thinking a hot dog and a cinnamon roll would be perfect right about now. Looks tasty!
